Eider White
SW 7014
Faint yellow-beige, a true neutral
- Color family
- White

- Interior and exterior
Sherwin-Williams Eider White SW 7014 is a neutral gray-white with an LRV of 73, so on most walls it reads white, and under Snowbound SW 7004 trim it reads as a pale gray. Our method reads its lean as a faint yellow-beige, too small to give it a cast, and the small amount there tips toward red rather than green, which is why some rooms pull a hint of pink or lilac out of it. It is a wall color for people who want white with gray in it, indoors and out.

Faint yellow-beige
Barely off gray.
Eider White measures as a near-neutral with a faint yellow-beige lean, and it is the one white in this group whose small lean tips toward red rather than green. That is the whole story of its reputation. In a north room, under cool bulbs or beside a warm beige, that red-side hair shows as a faint pink or lilac cast, and three of its closest matches by measurement sit in Sherwin-Williams' purple family. Beside white trim in daylight it reads as a soft gray-white; beside warm oak it warms up and the pink disappears into beige; beside cool blue-gray tile it can look faintly mauve by contrast. Incredible White SW 7028 is its near twin, and Lunar Lite SW 9546 is nearly as close.
Eider White in north, south, east and west light
North light is where Eider White's pink comes out: in a north-facing room the weak, cool light drops the yellow out of its lean and leaves the red-side hair, so the wall can read faintly lilac-gray, especially beside a warm beige floor. It is still a usable north-room white, but sample it there first. South light warms it into a soft white with the cast gone; east rooms see it warm early and grayer late; a west window at sunset can add a faint peach. The bulb decides a lot: 2700K warms it, 4000K makes it a cool gray with a lilac edge, and 3000K keeps it closest to the chip.
Watch for
- In a north room beside a warm beige carpet it can read faintly lilac
- Under 4000K bulbs it turns a cool gray with a pink edge
- Against a creamy trim such as Alabaster SW 7008 it looks cooler and pinker than against Snowbound SW 7004
Best rooms and surfaces for Eider White
Eider White is what people choose when they want a light gray that still passes as white, and it goes on the walls of living rooms, hallways and open plans, and reads calm in a bedroom. It is the natural light partner for Repose Gray SW 7015, on the walls above a Repose Gray accent wall or in the hallway off a Repose Gray room. On kitchen cabinets it reads as a pale gray-white, clean beside white quartz and marble with nickel or black hardware. The bathroom needs care: white tile and chrome under cool bulbs can bring the lilac cast out, so use warm bulbs there. It works as a trim color only over a mid-tone wall. Skip it for rooms full of warm beige and honey oak, which push it pink.
Eider White on an exterior
Eider White is on Sherwin-Williams' top exterior list. On siding it reads as a soft gray-white, near white in full sun and a clear pale gray on the shaded sides, and outdoors the pink question mostly disappears, since daylight is warmer than a north window. It suits gray and black roofs, stone and painted brick, with Snowbound SW 7004 or Extra White SW 7006 trim for crisp edges and a door in Iron Ore SW 7069 or Naval SW 6244 for contrast.

Questions about Eider White
Does Eider White look pink or purple?
It can, and it is the most common complaint about it. Its faint lean tips toward red rather than green, so in a north room, under cool bulbs or beside warm beige carpet it reads faintly lilac-gray. In daylight from the south, beside wood and under 2700K bulbs, the cast disappears and it reads as a soft gray-white. Sample it in the coolest room first.
What colors go with Eider White?
Sherwin-Williams' published picks for it are Snowbound SW 7004 on trim, Morris Room Grey SW 0037, a mid warm gray, and Aqua-Sphere SW 7613, a soft blue-green. In practice it sits well with gray and white oak floors, white marble, black, nickel, navy and muted blues and greens, and with Repose Gray SW 7015 on an accent wall. Warm beiges and honey oak bring out the pink.
What is one shade darker than Eider White?
First Star SW 7646 is the step below it on strip 256, a few points darker with the same neutral character, then Big Chill SW 7648. One shade lighter is Incredible White SW 7028, so close that the step vanishes on a wall, and above that Toque White SW 7003. Among its closest matches, City Loft SW 7631 is a touch darker and warmer.
Is Eider White a good exterior color?
Yes, and outdoors it is easier to live with than indoors. Sherwin-Williams lists it among its top exterior colors, and in daylight the pink cast that shows in a north room does not appear; a house reads as a soft gray-white in sun and a pale gray in shade. It suits gray roofs and stone, and it wants Snowbound SW 7004 or Extra White SW 7006 trim.
Is Eider White good for a bathroom?
Yes, with the right bulbs. White tile and chrome under cool LEDs are the combination that brings out its lilac edge, so use 2700K to 3000K bulbs and it reads as a clean gray-white. It pairs well with marble, gray floor tile and nickel fixtures, and Snowbound SW 7004 on the trim and vanity keeps the whites in one family.
