Sherwin-Williams Quietude SW 6212 is a soft blue-green, a mid-tone that looks like sage in some rooms and like a dusty aqua in others. Its LRV of 48 sits at the light-medium line, comfortable on four walls with good windows and noticeably moodier in a small or dim room. Our method reads it as a subtle green. It carries more color than Rainwashed SW 6211, one step lighter on the same strip, and sits a hair further toward blue. It is asked about most for bedrooms and bathrooms.

Subtle green
A gentle lean, quiet on the wall.
Quietude measures as a green with a trace of yellow and no blue. The trace is tiny, and it carries more color than Rainwashed SW 6211 above it on the strip. That is why it reads blue-green on a wall: the eye sees the green, notices no warmth, and calls it aqua or teal. Fresh Eucalyptus SW 9658 is a near twin by measurement, hard to tell apart on a wall. Beside Oyster Bay SW 6206, which has a yellow lean, Quietude looks plainly blue; beside Rain SW 6219, a blue by family, it looks plainly green. Warm oak and cream push it toward blue by contrast. A white with little yellow, gray tile and black metal let the green through.
Quietude in north, south, east and west light
Quietude is a mid-tone, so it neither washes out in strong light nor vanishes in weak light; what moves is the blue. In a north room it turns a soft slate blue with the sage gone, and that is the version most photographs of it show. North rooms are where people who wanted a green get a blue. South rooms warm it into a dusty sage-aqua. East rooms are green until midday and blue-gray after; west rooms are blue-gray until the evening sun turns them green. Warm bulbs at 2700K to 3000K keep the green at night, and a 4000K bulb makes it plainly blue.
Watch for
- Turns slate blue in a north room; for the sage side, use it in a south or west room
- Reads blue beside Oyster Bay SW 6206 or any yellow-leaning green, and green beside a real blue
- Cream trim and honey oak make the blue side win by contrast
- Goes a step deeper than the chip on four walls under an eight-foot ceiling
Best rooms and surfaces for Quietude
Bedrooms and bathrooms are the rooms people ask about, and both suit a mid-tone with this much calm in it. On four bedroom walls Quietude reads as a restful blue-green that takes white, oatmeal and pale wood. In a bathroom it sits with white tile and chrome and shows its blue side under vanity light. A living room or a dining room with good windows can carry it on every wall. In an open plan with few windows it can feel like a lot of one color, so use it on one end or a built-in. It is a good cabinet color for a kitchen or a vanity, with enough depth to read against white counters. A front door in it reads as a soft teal. It fights cream tile, honey oak and terracotta, which all push it blue.
Quietude on an exterior
Quietude is rated for exterior use and reads as a soft gray-green on siding, lighter in full sun and nearer a blue-green in shade. It suits a cottage or coastal house with white trim; Window Pane SW 6210 or Extra White SW 7006 keep the trim cool so the siding stays green. As a front door on a white or gray house it reads as a muted teal. For shutters or a door against Quietude siding, Jasper SW 6216, the near-black green at the bottom of its strip, is the natural partner.

Quietude is much darker; both have a subtle green undertone.
Rainwashed SW 6211 is one step up the strip and noticeably lighter, LRV 59 against 48, with a little less color. It reads as a pale wash where Quietude reads as a full mid-tone. The tint is nearly the same, blue-green in both. Choose Rainwashed for a small bathroom, a nursery or a bedroom that should stay airy. Sea Salt
QuietudeQuietude vs Sea Salt SW 6204
Quietude is much darker; both have a subtle green undertone.
Sea Salt SW 6204 is much lighter, LRV 63 against 48, and has more yellow in it. It reads as a pale sage that only turns blue in cool light. Oyster Bay
QuietudeQuietude vs Oyster Bay SW 6206
Quietude is noticeably lighter; undertone subtle green vs subtle yellow-leaning green.
Oyster Bay SW 6206 is a touch darker, LRV 44 against 48, and carries a small yellow lean where Quietude has none to speak of. Side by side, Oyster Bay is the gray-green and Quietude is the blue-green; on its own, each can pass for the other in the wrong light. Pick Oyster Bay when the room has warm wood and you want gray. Pick Quietude when the room has white and chrome and you want the water color.
Questions about Quietude
Does Quietude look blue?
In most rooms, yes. By measurement Quietude is a green with almost no yellow, and a green with no warmth reads to the eye as blue-green or aqua. It looks most blue in north light, under cool bulbs and beside warm finishes. It looks most green beside a true blue such as Rain SW 6219 or in a sunny south room.
What colors go with Quietude?
Sherwin-Williams pairs Quietude with Window Pane SW 6210 on trim. Its listed accents are Pavestone SW 7642, a gray, and Jasper Stone SW 9133, the deeper green two steps down its strip. In practice it also takes white, oatmeal, pale oak, walnut, black metal and navy, and a near-black green such as Jasper SW 6216 on a door.
What is one shade darker than Quietude?
Halcyon Green SW 6213 is the next color down strip 218, noticeably darker at LRV 39, and Rainwashed SW 6211 is the step up at 59. Among the closest matches, Hazel Gaze SW 9652 is a touch lighter, Forever Green SW 9653 a touch darker, and Fresh Eucalyptus SW 9658 a near twin at the same depth.
Is Quietude a good bedroom color?
Yes. A mid-tone blue-green on four bedroom walls reads calm without going dark, and Quietude does that in any exposure. The only question is whether it reads blue or green, and the window direction decides that. White or oatmeal bedding, pale wood and warm bedside bulbs keep it on the green side.
Was Quietude the Sherwin-Williams color of the year for 2025?
Yes. Sherwin-Williams named Quietude its Color of the Year for 2025. On a wall the choice makes sense: it is a mid-tone that is neither a bold green nor a safe gray, and it reads calm in almost any room. Rainwashed SW 6211, one step lighter on the same strip, is the pick for people who like the tint but want it paler.
Is Quietude a good bathroom color?
It is, and its blue side is an asset there. Under cool vanity light and beside white tile Quietude reads as a clean water color. It is deep enough to hold its own in a bathroom with no window. A warm-white bulb and Pure White SW 7005 trim keep it green; a cool bulb and chrome push it aqua.
